Cape May
I drew this picture after our close friends Jim and Felicia lost their beautiful daughter Mary Coppa Coffey over the summer of 2009. The scene is from the summer of 2008 in Cape May, where we spent the day with the Coffey family, I had a distinct memory of Mary playing in the surf by the water, so I felt moved to draw this for them. The sun is drawn to resemble the immaculate heart of Mary, because now Mary Coffey is living very close to the heart of the Queen of Heaven.
Christmas
I drew this for our 2009 Christmas Card, the hope of the drawing was to highlight the simplicity of Bethlehem, St. Teresa said, "when viewing the birth of Jesus, let there be no doubt of God's love for us," That is the great message of the Savior's birth in a stable, but also, it shows that there must be some great good for the soul in living simplicity.
The Ocean of God's Mercy
The meaning of the drawing is from a book "Strangers and Sojourners" by Michael O'Brien. Its actually my least favorite of his books, but there is a couple great scenes, and this is one that has stuck with me. The meaning is that God's Love and Mercy are an ocean, next to the drops of water of our sins. I am learning more and more that if you miss God's mercy, you miss everything!
Blessed Damian Confesses
Meaning behind the Drawing
Blessed Damian Confesses is a drawing about Blessed Damian who went to the Leprosy Colony in Hawaii to serve and bring God to the Lepers, in the process he contracted leprosy, therefore the only way for him to go to confession was to wade into the waters and yell his sins to the priest on the boat. There is a dolphin leaping for joy in the ocean, to show that confession is meant to be joyful, its about Jesus seeking us out, and He can find us anywhere!
